The AKM Story
How it started
I didn’t start this work because I love kale and kettlebells.
I started it because I lived through the very thing I now help people escape.
As a teenager, I was stuck in the cycle: restricting food, cardio addicted, obsessed over the scale, and chasing a body that never felt “enough.” I feared carbs. I avoided lifting to stay “skinny.” I punished my body with endless cardio and called it discipline. What I feared the most was staying stuck there forever.
My turning point came after intensive therapy and treatment. I stopped chasing weight loss and started focusing on what I could gain: strength, energy, peace of mind. I gave up cardio completely. I picked up weights. I fueled for performance, not punishment.
… And I never looked back.
For a full year, I faced every food fear, one bite at a time, while continuing therapy to stay grounded in recovery.
That process didn’t just change my body… it changed my mission. I became a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach and have now worked full-time in the health and wellness industry for over 9 years. I’ve spent thousands of hours studying, evolving, and building a method that doesn’t just work but it actually lasts.
my Turning Point
My Mother’s Story
My purpose deepened in 2015, when my mother was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis, despite never drinking alcohol. Her condition developed after years of unmanaged fatty liver disease.
In the earlier years, she was told to “just lose weight” and given vague, outdated advice with no urgency, no real support, and no plan. By the time she was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis and later ended up in the ICU in 2016, we realized how serious it really was.
Even early in my career when I was newly certified and still gaining experience, I knew the advice she was getting wasn’t enough.
So I did everything I could with what I had learned and backed it with endless hours of additional research. I built her a structured plan around nutrition, movement, and daily routine. She lost over 50 pounds, stabilized her blood sugar, and felt stronger than she had in years.
But life doesn’t always follow clean chapters...
When Covid hit, she lost momentum. Her health declined. By 2021, she was admitted to the hospital with severe ascites, the result of worsening cirrhosis.
That’s when I told her she was coming to live with me and I took full charge of her care. Every meal. Every step. Every blood sugar reading. I tracked it all. I rebuilt her habits. I supported her physically and emotionally.
And she thrived again… walking 10,000 steps a day, regaining her strength, and even getting off diabetes medication completely.
But in June 2021, she was diagnosed with liver cancer. Despite how healthy she looked, and how much the oncology team was shocked at how this woman who was so sick on paper could look so well, she wasn’t eligible for a liver transplant.
And on November 24, 2021, I lost her…

I still wonder…
What if, from the very start, she had access to the kind of support I now give my clients? What if I had the knowledge, systems, and refined experience I’ve built over these 9 years when she got that first diagnosis of fatty liver disease over 20 years ago?
This experience has changed me forever.
It has also become the heart of The Amanda Kimberly Method and it is part of the reason why I coach with another level of patience, care and compassion.
